The Use of Literary Texts in German Language Lessons

Abstract

In recent years, the role of literary texts in teaching German as a foreign language has increased. While pragmatic texts were previously dominant, today literary texts are used more frequently due to their linguistic, cultural, and cognitive advantages. Literary texts present a rich and authentic language, expanding vocabulary and introducing idiomatic expressions and stylistic devices. Additionally, they address emotional and social topics, fostering intercultural competence and encouraging learners to think actively.

Modern methods integrate literary texts into teaching in an interactive and creative way. Communicative and task-based approaches, as well as digital and multimedia tools, make lessons more engaging and effective. However, challenges such as text complexity and student motivation remain. Simplified texts, individualized approaches, and the selection of relevant topics can help overcome these difficulties.

Overall, literary texts are a valuable tool in modern foreign language teaching.

They do not only facilitate language learning but also develop cultural and cognitive skills, making lessons more interactive and motivating.
