The Symbolism of Fire Worship in Nizami`s Creativity
Abstract
Nizami's Khamsa draws significant inspiration from Zoroastrianism and its sacred text, the Avesta. The poet's works reflect not only the philosophy of fire worship, but also various symbolic elements associated with this ancient belief system.
This article discusses the sanctity, essence and significance of fire in Zoroastrianism. Additionally, it explains other symbolic concepts in this religion, such as the cross, rooster, egg and more. Depending on their contextual usage, these symbols are also examined for their poetic characteristics.
The literary examples taken from Nizami's works clearly indicate that he possessed a deep understanding of the principles and philosophical concepts of Zoroastrianism. When encountering these symbols in his writings, it becomes evident that Nizami sometimes employed them as metaphors. This is enhancing the poetic impact of his works.
