The Communicative Use of Pronouns in English
Abstract
New learners of English should learn to understand the pragmatic meaning of a sentence in order to avoid incorrect and unsuccessful communication. Because during communication, the speaking parties are required to know many pragmatic elements to prevent misunderstandings.
Pragmatic skill refers to the ability to understand and use words that are appropriate and correct for the social and cultural conditions in which communication occurs.
Pronouns occupy a special place in the study of pragmatics, because they have different shades of meaning depending on the context. There are eleven types of pronouns in English, and it is impossible to study them all to the same extent.
When we say pragmatic analysis of pronouns, we mean the study of who or what is meant by their referent. The same pronoun used in different sentences has the ability to express different referents.
