Stylistic Features of Personal Names

in English Phraseological Units

Abstract

Naming is one of the fundamental features of language. The act of naming people and places, domestic animals, natural phenomena, historical dates and holidays, institutions, works of art, etc. serves the purpose of identifying entities that play an important role in human daily life. Proper nouns, in addition to being the object of onomastics (the science of names), constitute a universal linguistic category. Proper nouns have a unique significance in language.

By creating a system that varies across cultures, they function as linguistic units reflecting real or imagined objects. Proper nouns in phraseological units play an important role in communication and serve as indicators of cultural, linguistic, geographical, ethnic, and social identity. Within phraseology, they are valuable linguistic units that shape the understanding of the interaction between language and culture.

Personal names, as a part of proper nouns, carry cultural essence and indicate international, national, or local character. The dedication of the article to this topic substantiates its relevance. The study discusses the stylistic potential of personal names from various sources in English phraseology. In this respect, attention is paid to the role of etymological features of personal names in shaping their stylistic qualities.
