Nader Shah's Army: The Most Powerful Military Force of the XVIII Century

Abstract

One of the most brilliant and powerful military leaders of the 18th century, Nadir Shah Afshar (1688-1747), is a great figure who made a name for himself in history by building a formidable army that could challenge the entire world with his strong will. Nadir Shah’s military career began when he was in the service of Baba Ali Bey. At a time when the Safavid Empire was weakening, Nadir Khan Afshar, through his military skills, was able to form a powerful army to combat foreign enemies. After fully seizing power, Nadir became the ruler of the Afshar dynasty, and he masterfully incorporated the military tactics and strategies of his era. He transformed his army into one of the most effective and powerful military forces of the time. The success of Nadir Shah's military tactics was largely due to his use of territorial reconnaissance, the disciplined maneuvers of his troops during battles, the implementation of successful tactics, and the strategic positioning of necessary forces. In this article, we have conducted a detailed examination of the structure of Nadir Shah’s army, his battle tactics, and war strategies by referring to recent research works and using analysis, evaluation, and comparison methods.
