Abstract

Khurjuns are significant examples of Azerbaijan’s ancient weaving and carpet-making traditions. Primarily used in nomadic and rural lifestyles, they combine both functional and aesthetic purposes. Woven from natural materials like wool, cotton, and silk using kilim and palas techniques, khurjuns feature symbolic patterns such as hooked, stepped, kilim flower, and scarf flower motifs that reflect the people's mythological worldview. The preservation of khurjun examples in museums plays a crucial role in sustaining, studying, and transmitting Azerbaijani applied art to future generations.
