Definitions and Their Influence on Language in the Epics of Dede Gorgud
Abstract
Definitions are one of the means of artistic expression that play an important role in the historical development of Azerbaijani literature. This means enriches the image of a person, event or object by emphasizing various features of them and conveys them to the reader more effectively. Definitions form the basis of the artistic style in the "Kitabi-Dede Gorgud" epics. The epithets used in the epic clearly reflect the character of the heroes, the customs and traditions of society and national values. For example, definitions such as "steel-armed", "sword-hearted" were used to describe the physical strength and moral qualities of the heroes. These expressions skillfully convey the greatness and fighting spirit of the heroes of the epic to the reader.
Definitions in the epics of Dede Gorgud not only carry an aesthetic function, but also shed light on the historical development of the language by preserving the linguistic features of the period. The definitions used in the epic reflect the vocabulary composition and richness of expression of the Azerbaijani Turkish of that period. Through the designations, the rhythmic and harmonious nature of the language is ensured, and the emotional impact on the reader or listener is increased. Thus, the designations in the epics of "Dede Gorgud" are of great importance both in terms of artistic style and language history.
