Characteristics of Sentence Members According to Their Structure
Abstract
Purpose of the study. A sentence is a language unit consisting of words or phrases in accordance with certain grammatical rules and capable of expressing a complete meaning. A sentence consists of a set of words placed in a logical sequence to acquire meaning, express an action or state. Sentence members are structural elements of a sentence. They are combined in a sentence and perform certain functions. Sentence members can consist of one or more words and can only be transferred as a whole within a sentence.
The study of the characteristics of sentence members according to their structure is of great importance in terms of the development of linguistics. The purpose of this study is to study the structure of sentence members, determine grammatical relations and analyze the functional significance of sentence members. According to their structure, sentences are mainly divided into two parts: simple or complex sentences. A simple sentence is a sentence consisting of one verb. Unlike a simple sentence, a complex sentence consists of one or more sentences.
Research method. Analytical method, experimental method, and applied method were used during the research of this study. Syntactic analysis used in the study determines the structure of sentences, morphological analysis examines the morphological characteristics of words that make up the sentence.
Research results. The main results of the study are important in terms of examining the general characteristics of sentence members, the structure of sentence members and their characteristics according to parts of speech. The results of examining sentence members according to their structure are important in terms of linguistics and stylistics.
