(The Case of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic)

Abstract

The article provides a comprehensive analysis of the tourism potential of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and evaluates the region’s natural, cultural, historical, recreational, ecological, and health-related resources. The study highlights Nakhchivan’s advantageous geographical location, accessible transport infrastructure, diverse landscapes, mineral springs, sanatorium complexes, religious pilgrimage sites, and rich cultural heritage as its key tourism advantages. Statistical data demonstrate the dynamics of domestic and inbound tourism in the region. At the same time, infrastructure limitations, lack of systematic resource management, and insufficient marketing activities are identified as major challenges. Based on SWOT analysis, the study outlines the development opportunities and risks in the tourism sector. The article also examines the impact of the “State Program on the Socio-Economic Development of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic for 2023–2027” on tourism, concluding that the program creates significant opportunities for modernizing infrastructure and enhancing health, ecological, religious, and digital tourism in the region.
