The Relationship of Some Ornaments Which Applied in Ajami Abubakr
oglu Nakhchivani`s Architecture With Turkish Mythology
Abstract
The article is devoted to the meanings of the ornaments carved on the architectural monuments built by the genius of Azerbaijani architecture Ajami Abubakr oglu Nakhchivani, in Turkic mythology. It is shown that, various types of ornaments played an important role in the mythical thinking of the ancient Turks. The architect Ajami Nakhchivani also carved geometric and floral ornaments belonging to Turkic mythology on the magnificent works that he created with his great talent and broad thinking. Each ornament reflected on Ajami's monuments has a special place and role in Turkic mythical thinking. The antiquity of the history of the Turkic peoples is manifested in Ajami's work through these ornaments, which are considered symbols of beauty. The ornaments on the tombs of Yusif Kuseyir oglu and Momina Khatyn, which built by Ajami Nakhchivani and which have survived to our time, are decorative elements from the cultures of the Huns, the most ancient Turkic tribes. The simple geometric ornaments used on these monuments, such as lines, circles, and the polygons formed from them, and polygonal stars, have various meanings in Turkish mythology. Polygons are formed from simple geometric ornaments that combined to form networks, which are the most complex geometric ornaments. The Turkish spirit dominates in these wall networks which applied in the monuments built by the genius architect. Along with geometric ornaments on Ajami`s architectural monuments, floral ornaments called islimi are also ornaments related to Turkish mythical thought.
