The Influence of Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem on Students’
Academic Achievement in the Academic Environment
Abstract
This article explores the impact of students’ self-confidence and self-esteem on their academic performance. Both constructs are viewed as core psychological factors shaping motivation, emotional stability, and attitude toward learning. High self-confidence fosters persistence, autonomy, and belief in success, while adequate self-esteem enables students to recognize their strengths and weaknesses realistically. Low self-confidence and poor self-esteem, in contrast, lead to reduced motivation, anxiety, and lower academic outcomes.
Findings highlight that a positive academic environment enhances students’ self-belief and psychological well-being, ultimately improving learning performance. For this reason, it is necessary to implement psychological support programs and training that develops self-regulation skills in higher education institutions.
