The Director-author Tandem in Bahram Osmanov’s Productions
Abstract. Throughout his creative career, the prominent Azerbaijani theatre director Bahram Osmanov has succeeded in becoming a co-author of the performances he staged. Achieving this is impossible without establishing a strong partnership between the director and the playwright, as well as between the director and the author. In every production, he builds close creative cooperation with the entire artistic team, including the author of the work. An actor's ability to become a co-author of their role also stems from the director's own ability to act as a co-author of the performance. In Osmanov's productions, the entire acting ensemble advances toward a common goal with confidence and conviction. This unity is inspired by the director's ability to present himself as a true co-author of the stage work. As a result, the acting ensemble, set designer, composer, and the entire creative team trust and follow the director. To achieve such a result, the director must clarify all aspects of the work in collaboration with the author before beginning rehearsals with the actors. This issue remains relevant not only in Azerbaijani theatre but also in world theatre practice. In order to address this problem, respect for the author's vision should be promoted and cultivated from the educational stage as one of the fundamental professional principles.
