Strategic Management of General Education Schools in the Context
of the Information Society
Abstract
Since the second half of the 20th century, global developments in information and communication technologies have profoundly transformed the economic, social, and cultural structures of societies, accelerating the transition from industrial rationality to a knowledge-oriented information society. In this new era, knowledge production and human capital have become not only key indicators of economic growth, but also fundamental criteria of social power and cultural transformation. The widespread use of the Internet and the proliferation of digital platforms have democratized learning processes and enabled individuals to take a more active role in knowledge production.
The impact of this transformation on the education system necessitates a rethinking of strategic management approaches. The modern general education school must function as a multilayered learning ecosystem that develops 21st-century competencies such as critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, digital literacy, and collaboration. In this context, the teacher acts not as a transmitter of information but as a facilitator guiding learning processes, while the student becomes an active subject who investigates, analyzes, and generates knowledge. School leadership, in turn, should be based on transformational leadership principles, promoting data-driven decision-making and an inclusive educational culture.
In conclusion, strategic school management in the information society plays a decisive role in enhancing the intellectual potential of society, ensuring social equity, and preparing competitive future generations.
