Speech Culture and Slang Usage Among Young People:
Sociolinguistic Observations
Abstract
This article analyzes the current state of speech culture among modern youth and the reasons for the widespread use of slang expressions from a sociolinguistic perspective. The study focuses on the increasing usage of slang and jargon expressions in the communication style of young people, the social, psychological and cultural foundations of this trend. Motivations such as showing that young people belong to different social and age groups, highlighting their individuality and demonstrating a certain protest position against the official and normative language system are considered the main driving factors of this process.
The article also analyzes the functional role of slang usage in everyday communication. Thus, through slang expressions, young people transmit information more quickly and effectively, increase emotional impact, and strengthen social closeness in informal environments. However, the impact of this process on the general speech culture is not only positive; in this sense, it is possible that it can
also lead to negative consequences such as the erosion of language norms and styles, the weakening of lexical diversity, the decline in the level of communication, and the loss of aesthetic values.
The article analyzes the speech habits of modern youth from a sociolinguistic perspective and, pointing to the dynamic, changing nature of language, attempts to objectively assess the impact of slang use on the general communication culture of society.
