Spatial Solutions in Nazim Baykishiyev's Stage Designs
Abstract
The stage designs created by Nazim Beykishiyev, who possesses high artistic erudition, are distinguished by their unique spatial and temporal features in theatrical performances. By skillfully using bright national colors, lighting, and stage technologies, he creates powerful visual images. His stage decorations emphasize the dynamic interplay of visual elements such as surface, space, light-tone, props, texture, and volume. Beykishiyev's stage solutions serve not only aesthetic purposes but also reveal the inner world of the characters. This approach is particularly evident in the plays “Hamlet” and “Iblis”. The stage designs of both plays emphasize their psychological and philosophical aspects, deeply affecting the audience and highlighting internal conflicts. Dark and deep color tones dominate both productions. Issues like power and dictatorship are also underlined through symbolic elements. Moreover, the visual style and props reflect the characters' internal struggles and psychological states. Both works emphasize human destiny, inner conflicts, and moral collapse, which add depth to the plays’ conceptual and aesthetic message.
