Manifestations of National-Spiritual Awakening in the Creativity of
Jalil Mammadguluzadeh
Abstract
The founder of critical realistic satirical literature, the prominent writer, playwright, journalist, public figure Jalil Mammadguluzadeh revealed the deep layers of life and society with realistic colors with his rich creativity. After the 1905 revolution, the “Molla Nasraddin” satirical periodichal founded by the writer was recognized as the most influential press agency that accurately expressed the essence and spirit of the people's liberation movement in Azerbaijan. The main priority in the writer's comedy “Olular” (The Dead), was the national-spiritual awakening, social-cultural progress. In his magnificent work called “Anamin kitabı” (The Book of My Mother), which contains the idea of Azerbaijanism, he described the people as a precious treasure calling for national unity, the protection of our lineage and rich language, with its moral triumphs over the dark world and its struggle for the progressive public opinion required by the times. Gurbanali Bey is a glorifier of injustice as the landlord of Gapazli village in the story of “Gurbanali Bey”. Many arbitrariness is described through the prayer beads, which is considered a holy object in the Islamic world, in the name of religion in the story “Khanin tesbehi” (Khan's Preayer Beads). In the story “Dellak” (Barber), he revealed the problems that illiteracy can cause, and in the story “Takhil hekimi” (Doctor for Grain), the action of an intellectual that undermines the name of an intellectual was criticized. In the story “Saggallı ushag” (The Bearded Boy), the title is expressed by the symbolic name of “the bearded boy” - Kabla Azim (Kabla Azimler), an old man whom the society crippled and made illiterate. In addition, it was also noted that Mirza Jalil tried his pen with the signatures “Molla Nasreddin”, “Hop-hop”, “Laglagı” (Chatterer), “Dali” (Mad), “Jizvizchi”, “Hardamkhayal” (Light-minded), “Yukhusuz Molla ami” (Sleepless Uncle Molla).
