Humanist Approach in Teacher- Student Relationships
Farida Gahramanova
Abstract. The humanistic approach to teacher-student relations is one of the main principles that increase the effectiveness of teaching in the context of modern pedagogical thinking. This approach, unlike the traditional authoritarian, teacher-centered model, is based on mutual respect, dialogue and cooperation. The humanistic theory of education presents the teacher not only as a person who transmits knowledge, but also as a facilitator who guides the development of students, provides support and controls the socio-emotional environment. In such an approach, the teacher aims to reveal the student's cognitive and critical thinking skills, motivates them to learn and expands their opportunities for self-expression. The humanistic approach provides a number of psychological and pedagogical advantages in teacher-student relations. First of all, this approach ensures the active participation of students in the learning process; they participate in discussions, express their opinions and develop decision-making skills in difficult situations. Secondly, a relationship of trust is established between the teacher and the student, which significantly increases the effectiveness of learning. Third, the humanistic approach to education helps to overcome psychological problems by incorporating elements such as respect for individual needs, empathy, and social and emotional support into the teaching process. As a result, students gain self-confidence, a sense of responsibility, and social-emotional skills.
