Geographical Analysis of the Formation of Azerbaijan's Water Resources and Spatial Structure in the Context of Climate Change
Abstract
The article analyzes the formation of water resources and the spatial structure of their distribution in Azerbaijan in the context of climate change. Global climate change significantly affects hydrological regimes, river runoff and the regional distribution of water resources. The complex relief, diverse climate zones and hydrographic network of Azerbaijan play an important role in the formation of water resources.
Within the framework of the research, the spatial distribution of the country's main water basins, river systems and groundwater resources has been analyzed. The results show that in recent decades, due to rising temperatures and uneven precipitation distribution, a decrease in water resources has been observed in some regions. Changes in the hydrological regime of the Kura and Araz river basins particularly affect agriculture, industry and water supply for the population. The study also examines the impact of climate change on water resource management and identifies directions for sustainable water resource management.
