Features of Teaching the Russian Language in Azerbaijani Schools

Abstract

This article is aimed at the formation of various linguistic and cultural elements in the education system and increasing students' knowledge of the cultures of other countries, primarily Russia. This approach enriches Russian language lessons with the above-mentioned materials and teaches students not only the history and culture of the Russian language, but also what methods are used in the education system. New information in this area does not contradict the requirements of the latest curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education of Azerbaijan in 2025. The provisions of this curriculum reflect the current state of Russian language learning in higher education institutions of the Republic. In addition, the inclusion of various linguistic and cultural elements in lesson plans (lectures and seminars) aims to actively integrate the basics of communication, or more precisely, the development of communicative competence, into the process of teaching Russian as a foreign language.

This article presents the experimental part of the pedagogical and linguistic research conducted at secondary school No. 175 in Baku. The main goal of the experiment is to determine the impact of communication skills among students on their learning and proficiency in Russian as a foreign language. The results showed that many students have difficulty constructing sentences, using vocabulary, and expressing their thoughts orally.

Keywords: Russian as a foreign language, communicative competence, linguistics and regional studies, Russian culture, teaching foreign students
