The Role of Motivation and Discipline in the
Upbringing of Young People
Abstract
Motivation and discipline play a key role in shaping the character, academic success and overall personal development of youth. While motivation drives individuals toward their goals, discipline ensures continuity and perseverance in their efforts. The interaction between these two factors is crucial for instilling lifelong values, strengthening responsibility, and fostering success-oriented mindsets. This article examines the importance of motivation and discipline, the application of disciplinary rules for students, and their collective role in the upbringing of youth. By involving both psychological aspects and pedagogical approaches, the study analyzes how motivation and discipline are formed and enhanced through the joint efforts of teachers and society. We will review the responses to questions posed in an online survey conducted among 110 participants, current or former students at Nakhchivan State University and other higher education institutions. The article discusses in-depth the youth's attitudes towards these two components, what motivates them and what keeps them disciplined, providing a broad interpretation of how this potential responds to various factors. In conclusion, the article demonstrates that the combined application of motivation and discipline plays a significant role not only in academic ability but also in personal and social development. The optimal balance of structure and opportunities in education is one of the main foundations for the formation of successful individuals in the future.
