The Role of Authentic Learning Programs and Activities in
Teaching a Foreign Language
Abstract
The use of authentic materials in foreign language teaching is very important and these materials increase the students’ success in learning. Thanks to developing technology, there are significant improvements in the type and quality of materials used in the learning process. Authentic learning programs are great importance in foreign language teaching and research shows that the use of these programs has a positive effect on the effectiveness of authentic learning. This article discusses authentic learning environments, authentic learning activities and experiences, and highlights the main points about the gradual narrowing of the gap between real life and formal learning thanks to these programs and activities that are developing in foreign language teaching.
The use of authentic language learning means in teaching a foreign language creates opportunities for students to further develop their reading, writing, listening, speaking and thinking skills and strategies and to use these skills effectively. In the modern digital age, the use of authentic language learning programs and activities in language teaching prepares students for the future and develops individuals who are critical thinkers, highly motivated, effective communicators and have problem-solving skills.
