The Artistic Language of 19th-Century Azerbaijani Satire: Genre-Stylistic Transformations and Sociolinguistic Aspects
Sakina Bayramova
Abstract. The article examines the linguistic and stylistic parameters of 19th-century Azerbaijani satirical poetry within the context of critical realism and enlightenment. The study employs structural-semantic analysis, functional stylistics, and critical discourse analysis applied in modern linguistics. The primary objective of the research is to identify the linguistic mechanisms of the transition period from classical Oriental poetics to the living vernacular language. To this end, the attenuation of Arabic-Persian compounds, the integration of spoken colloquial language into poetry, and the formation of individual stylistic elements were analyzed based on the works of Gasim bey Zakir, Seyid Azim Shirvani, Baba bey Shakir, and other prominent literary figures. The methodology of the research comprises structural-semantic, functional-stylistic, and critical discourse analysis methods. The scientific novelty of the study is determined by the parodying of traditional artistic patterns in satire and the linguo-poetic filtering of social-critical rhetoric. Consequently, it has been established that the language system of 19th-century satirical poetry played a fundamental transition role in the democratization of poetic language, the enhancement of journalistic and dialogic dynamism, as well as the creation of the linguistic-stylistic foundation for the "Molla Nasraddin" satire school formed in the early 20th century. The obtained findings serve as a crucial socio-linguistic source for studying the historical evolution of the Azerbaijani literary language.
