Research on Wind Energy Use in the Caspian Sea

Abstract

This research work aims to investigate the opportunities, economic and environmental advantages, as well as technical and institutional challenges of using wind energy in the Caspian Sea. The Caspian region, especially the Azerbaijani coastline, has favorable conditions for alternative energy production with medium and high wind speeds. By using this geographical advantage, it is possible to strengthen energy security, reduce carbon emissions and diversify the energy sector through wind energy.

The study assessed the meteorological conditions and wind potential of the Caspian Sea, analyzed the economic efficiency and forms of application of offshore wind energy in comparison with world experience. At the same time, the technological aspects of the construction of offshore wind turbines in the Caspian Sea, infrastructure needs, environmental impact and investment requirements were investigated. As a result of the study, it was determined that platforms and shallow water areas located on the coast of the Caspian Sea are promising areas for wind turbines, and the economic profitability of using this resource can be increased by applying modern technologies.
