Lexical Semantic Features of Toponymic Words in Modern English
Abstract
The article "English place names and their usage in English literature" deals with the place - names (toponyms) and their usage forms in English literature. The article touched upon the problems such as the classification of place names and their usage in English literature, In literary works toponyms portray cultural, historical, economic relations between different peoples and give emotional coloring to the work. Different languages have greatly influenced the origin of English toponyms at various times in history. As a result of the research, we come the conclusion that there are Celt, Scandinavian, French and Latin elements in English toponymy. The article presents passages chosen from English literary works representing stylistic possibilities of geographhic names. In considering the geocraphical names in the United Kingdom, most of them by carriers misunderstanding modern language becomes clear meanings. The main reason for this is that the ancient history of the area and the subsequent centuries the wrong pronunciation of names as a result of recording errors, the majority of the oldest names in the structure of English words and suffixes and so. Therefore, the semantic meaning of the geocraphical name of the individual elements that comprising it are determined based on semantic analysis. This is a special feature English toponymic names and place names to identify the geocraphic terms, the focus is attribute other ways of begoming.
