Language Choice and Social Influences
Natavan Seyidzade
Abstract. Language choice in a multilingual environment is related to the social environment, culture, and social relationships in which people live. It is not accidental that people use different languages in their daily lives. This choice is shaped by factors such as family environment, education, work life, and position in society.
For example, a person may speak their native language at home, but may choose the language that is more widely used in official places or in a work environment. This also shows that language choice varies depending on the situation and environment.
Multilingualism contributes to the strengthening of ties between different peoples and the development of cultural and economic relations. However, in some cases, problems such as the superiority of certain languages, social inequality, and assimilation may also arise.
Thus, language choice in a multilingual environment is not only a personal decision, but also a complex process shaped by the influence of social and cultural factors.
