In-School Assessment and Teaching Quality:
Modern Approaches
Balgız Musayeva
Abstract. In the modern education system, assessment is no longer considered merely a tool for testing students’ knowledge, but rather an important pedagogical mechanism that supports students’ development and guides the learning process. Assessment not only determines final outcomes, but also allows teachers to monitor the development of students’ knowledge, skills, and competencies. Within the framework of the research, the main types of school-based assessment diagnostic, formative, and summative assessment were analyzed. Particular attention was paid to the positive impact of formative assessment and feedback on student achievement. In contemporary pedagogical approaches, feedback is regarded as an essential tool that directs students’ progress, increases motivation, and makes learning more purposeful. In addition, the role of feedback in the learning process was examined within the context of constructivist approaches and the social learning theory of Lev Vygotsky. The integration of modern technologies has made assessment more interactive and individualized, while self-assessment and peer assessment have contributed to the development of students’ reflective thinking, collaboration, and independent learning skills.
