Turan Mukhtarova
Abstract. In the context of modern globalization, the rapid development of international political, economic, and legal relations has significantly increased the need for the translation of official-business texts. Accurate and adequate translation of state documents, international agreements, legislative acts, diplomatic correspondence, and documents belonging to international organizations plays an important role in the establishment and development of interstate relations. The present article extensively examines the main difficulties arising in the process of translating official-business texts as well as the possible ways of overcoming these problems. During the research, terminological accuracy, the maintenance of legal equivalence, syntactic features, stylistic correspondence, and cultural factors were analyzed in detail. It was determined that the principal characteristics of official-business style consist of objectivity, compliance with standardized language norms, avoidance of emotional expressions, and preservation of a precise structure. Any terminological or stylistic mistake made during the translation process may lead to legal and administrative complications. The article also investigates the impact of differences between legal systems of various languages on the translation process. In particular, identifying adequate equivalents of legal terms in Azerbaijani and English has been evaluated as one of the major issues. The findings of the research demonstrate that professional translation activity is not limited solely to language proficiency but also requires extensive theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of law, diplomacy, and international relations.
The article emphasizes the significant role of terminological databases, electronic dictionaries, and international standards in improving translation quality. In addition, it is noted that the application of the principle of functional equivalence enables official texts to be translated in a more accurate, comprehensible, and appropriate manner. Within the framework of the research, the specific characteristics of official-business style were identified, and practical solutions to problems encountered during translation were presented. At the same time, special attention was paid to the importance of developing professional translation skills and maintaining a comprehensive terminological base.
