Concepts and Expressions Related to Fire Worship in Nizami's Works
Abstract
This article explores the literary legacy of Nizami Ganjavi through the lens of fire worship religious aspects. İt provides information about certain expressions and terms connected to this ancient religion and illustrates their use in the poet's works with specific examples.
The study also touches upon Zoroastrian mythology explaining the dualistic deities such as Ahura Mazda (Hormuzd) and Angra Mainyu (Ahriman) and their appearances in the Khamsa (Quintet). Furthermore, the usage and interpretative depth of the term div (demon) are extensively analyzed.
Concepts directly tied to the religion such as magus, majusi, shammas and others are explained with illustrative references. Additionally parallels with the philosophy of the Avesta are also highlighted.
