Artistic Characteristics of the Late Bronze and Early Iron

Age Ornaments of Nakhchivan

 

Abstract

Ornaments found in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age monuments of Nakhchivan are remarkable for their artistic solution of forms and decorative elements. The production of decorative items from bronze indicates high achievements in the field of metallurgy, despite the difficulties of the time. Despite the fact that the process of obtaining and processing bronze is quite difficult, the fineness, elegance, and richness of the artistic features of ornaments are the fruit of the masters traditions in the field of metalworking. The achievements in the field of art metal in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age were developed on the basis of the craft traditions formed in the previous period and selected with their own new shades. During this period, bronze ornaments increased in number and were made with high artistic taste. Eyeglass pendant, bracelet, necklace, ring, etc. Bronze ornaments of the period. Bronze glasses-shaped pendants were found in the necropolises of Gizilburun, Kolani and Saridara. Snake-shaped eyeglass pendants, bracelets and necklaces were created in connection with snake worship.

Totemistic beliefs existed in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Ages as well as in earlier periods. In addition to the snake, a number of ornaments related to faith in goats, sheep and birds were made. Metal ornaments made of metal are patterned by casting or grid casting, cutting, scratching, drawing, engraving, grid method. The snakes and birds that decorate metal ornaments of Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age, distinguished by their artistic richness, were created from totemistic beliefs and the artistic achievements of the ancient tribes of Nakhchivan in the field of metalworking.
